Am Not Withdrawing From 2027 Presidency — Jonathan

Post created on 2:43 pm

Reports making the rounds that former President Goodluck Jonathan has stepped down from the 2027 presidential election race to protect the interests of Southern unity are not true.

‎The rebuttal was announced by his cousin, Azibaola Robert, on Friday in a statement shared on his Facebook page, stating that Jonathan never said he wouldn’t contest.

‎The former president has not officially declared his candidacy, but strong indications allege that he has been holding nationwide consultations to actualize a second-term bid.

‎Still reacting to the story published by Newsweek Nigeria titled “Jonathan Rejects Pressure to Contest in 2027, Says He Won’t Be Used Against Southern Unity,” Robert said the story was fake and urged Nigerians to disregard it, noting that the supposed aide of Jonathan cited as a source in the report does not exist.

‎However, Jonathan’s interest has not been made public, but he has made it clear that he would not yield to calls not to run, as those making such calls have selfish motives.
