Every report circulating out there that the former Governor of Bayelsa State and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, is being linked to plotting a coup is nothing but a baseless claim from politicians who are scared of my principal.
This was contained in a statement released by Julius Bokoru, the Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the ex-Minister, on Wednesday, stating that it is just the handiwork of desperate politicians fighting for the 2027 elections.
Earlier, it was reported that the home of the former governor in Maitama, Abuja, was raided by the Nigerian Army on Tuesday, and his brother Paga was apprehended, with fingers pointing to the fact that Sylva had left Nigeria owing to the coup plot.
However, debunking the claims, Bokoru said he had received several calls, but Sylva is in the United Kingdom with his wife for medical checks and will proceed to Malaysia for a conference much later.
Noting that the home of the former governor was raided by the Nigeria Defense Headquarters, no substantial reason has been given for the raid, as he reiterated that his principal is committed to President Bola Tinubu, but desperados who are scared of Sylva carried out this wicked act.
Notwithstanding, two intelligence officers confirmed that an official was arrested for allegedly transferring a huge sum of money to Sylva, who is still being fingered as one of the financiers of the alleged plot. Investigators are said to believe the funds were meant to finance the purported coup.
