Ali Bongo’s Wife, Jailed In Gabon

The wife of Ali Bongo the disposed leader of Gabon who has been under since the coup, has been arrested and jailed for embezzlement of funds.

Lawyer to Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Valentin, Francois Zimeray told AFP on Thursday it was a case of suspected embezzling of public funds that led to her being jailed.

Bongo’s wife was charged on September 28 with money laundering, forgery and falsification of records.

Sylvia has been under house arrest in Libreville after the military coup that ousted her husband as president.

According to the military coup plotters, they accused the former president of manipulating election results and his wife of taking over major decisions since Ali suffered a stroke in 2018.
