Senate President of Nigeria, Godswill Akpabio, has confirmed that plans are underway for the creation of Anioma State, describing the proposal as part of broader efforts to restructure representation in Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone.
Akpabio made this known at the 2026 South-South Zonal Congress of the All Progressives Congress, APC held at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba the state capital.
He explained that the proposed Anioma State would be carved out of Delta State, clarifying that Warri would become the capital of Delta State, and Asaba would serve as the capital of the proposed Anioma State.
The Senate President added that the initiative is already in motion, noting that it could enhance governance and representation across the affected regions as he added that the creation of more states would ultimately benefit national development.
Member representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko, during an interview with newsmen, noted that he had played his part as he called on other Delta North political big wings to join the train.
