While some Nigerians are singing a new National Anthem in the direction of a protest for the forthcoming October 1 celebration due to the economic hardship bedeviling the country, the administration of President Tinubu has said the celebration would be on a low-key level.
This is the second Independence Day celebration that is celebrated on a low key basis since the emergence of this new administration as the mood of the population is not buying into the hardship, despite the N70,000 increment in the minimum wage.
According to Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Government’s decision for a low-key celebration was because President Bola Tinubu is aware of the situation Nigerians are going through and sympathizes with them.
Despite the government’s no Independence Day celebration, activists are still insisting on the planned October 1 protest, a continuation of the end hunger protest to press home their demands as things become unbearable for all.
