Global Language Will Open Doors More Than Igbo or Yoruba, Kilton Cod Backs Peter Okoye

Singer Peter Okoye was called out by Nigerians following a tweet made on X where he questioned how speaking a Nigerian language has helped anyone in the world, despite the nation’s official language being English, as his children speak French fluently.
The singer was supported by Kilton Cod, who agreed that his children speak English and French, which he had even argued with his father about regarding how fast the world is moving.
“Crazy thing is I have argued this with my own father a thousand times. They are always pissed my kids speak French and English but not Igbo, and my response is simple.
“The world is progressing, but Nigeria regresses daily. Most people are running away from the country, and 10 out of 10 times, they will not use Igbo for anything in a white man’s land. Speaking French, English, or any globally recognized language will open far better doors for your kids than Igbo or Yoruba will, unless they have plans to become Igbo or Yoruba movie actors or artists.
“Now, it doesn’t mean that if I have the opportunity to teach them Igbo, I wouldn’t, but I will prioritize a language that will help their lives in adulthood over anything else,” he said.
