Over eight weeks and counting, the 39 children and seven teachers kidnapped from three different schools in Yawota and Ensinle, all in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, are still languishing in captivity while the Nigerian military disclosed that the kidnappers are using them as leverage for the release of their arrested commanders.

Speaking on the development during an interview with News Central on Wednesday, Minister of Defence Christopher Musa revealed that their advancement to the terrorists’ hideout has been hindered due to threats that further advancement will lead to the killing of all the children.

He added that some of the terrorists’ commanders are in custody of the military, so they are using the children and teachers as leverage, but he noted that when the laws are soft, it is the reason why people take advantage of it.
