Atiku Slams First Lady’s Rice Distribution in the North

The former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has criticized the distribution of 100 trucks of rice by Senator Oluremi Tinubu to northerners, stating that food has been turned into a political tool instead of implementing sustainable food security policies to help the nation.

The rice and ₦1.2 billion in cash were distributed on Friday by the First Lady to vulnerable households across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. However, the gesture has been shunned by Atiku, who describes it as the politicization of hardship rather than a genuine response to economic distress.

Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said it was a subtle weaponization of hunger and a political strategy.
