Nigeria Defence Speaks on US Troops Presence

The Nigeria Defence Headquarters, through its spokesperson, has provided further clarification regarding the US military presence in the nation, following concerns from citizens.

This was contained in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, on Thursday in Abuja, stating that the nature of the military presence is based on a long-standing partnership between Nigeria and the US.

He said the collaboration followed earlier engagements in the United States, and all activities under the partnership were conducted with full respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty and strictly in line with existing bilateral frameworks.

Furthermore, the defence revealed that a two-day Working Group meeting involving senior US government officials and their Nigerian counterparts was recently held at the office of the National Security Adviser, fully cooperating.
