US Deploys Military Troops to Nigeria

The United States military on February 3, 2025, confirmed a small presence of American troops deployed to Nigeria to help target extremist groups.

The announcement of the contingent US forces in Nigeria was made by General Dagvin Anderson, head of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), after a bilateral understanding between Washington and Abuja aimed at boosting counterterrorism cooperation.

Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Christopher Musa, also confirmed the presence of US military personnel in the country, without providing additional clarification.

The presence is currently described as a “small team” focused on collaboration and intelligence rather than a large-scale combat invasion.
