The Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, has addressed the case of rising gospel singer Ifunanya Nwagene, who died from a snake bite in her home after medical help failed at the Federal Medical Centre. The hospital has clarified issues surrounding her death.
Nanya, a soprano singer with the Amemuso Choir, had her death announced on Saturday, January 31, after all help from two medical facilities could not resuscitate her from the effects of the snake venom.
According to a statement by the FMC, Abuja, which extended condolences to the family, the circumstances surrounding Nanya’s death were clarified. It stated that efforts were made to save her life, including resuscitation efforts, intravenous fluids, intranasal oxygen, and the administration of polyvalent snake antivenom.
It added that Nanya suffered severe neurotoxic complications as a result of the snake bite, but after rapid evaluation, efforts were made to stabilize her condition and prepare her for transfer to the Intensive Care Unit.
However, her condition reportedly deteriorated suddenly just before the transfer, and all efforts to save her failed.
