All Police To Serve Communities, Not VIPs — President Tinubu

In a high-level security meeting held on Sunday in Abuja between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, service chiefs, the Army, Air Force, Police, and DSS, it was decided that all officers attached to VIPs in the nation should be immediately withdrawn.

This new policy marks another era for police officers currently assigned to guard Very Important Persons (VIPs) across the country, as their redeployment is primarily to focus on states across the nation.

The VIPs who require protection will now work with security personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), rather than the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, it was explained that the move became necessary due to the challenges facing insecurity. The reallocation of these officers will strengthen police presence in communities and improve citizen protection.

Furthermore, to boost police capacity, about 30,000 men will be recruited to the NPF in close collaboration with state governments.
