Japa Syndrome: Akwa-Ibom Government Declares Two Doctors Wanted

The state government has repeatedly stated that any medical personnel it trains is bound to first serve the state to cover the cost of the training before they are allowed to leave for greener pastures.
These were the words of the Commissioner for Health in Akwa-Ibom State, Dr. Ekem John, after two medical doctors trained by the state traveled for greener pastures.
The two doctors are a consultant radiologist, Dr. Uduakabasi Ita, and a consultant haematologist, Dr. Mfonobong Bassey. Both employees of the state ministry of health left their duty without first serving the state to cover the training funded by the state government.
In a press statement on Tuesday in Uyo, the Commissioner of Health said the two medical personnel were to serve the state after they had been trained for eight years, and no matter what country they entered, they would be sourced out for.
He therefore urged the family members to reach out to the ministry, return to their duty posts, and serve the agreed-upon years or, better still, refund all the financial resources spent by the government during their training.
