Sad Night for Residents as Fire Kills Four in Liberia

It was a sad incident in the early hours of today, Thursday, at the New Matadi community, opposite Don Bosco Catholic Church, as the shouts for help and tears of wailing woke the neighborhood in Liberia.
The tragic incident happened at about 1:15 a.m. and continued until 2:30 p.m. when firefighters arrived to put out the fire. However, before their arrival, the whole building had been razed down, resulting in the deaths of four individuals: two teenagers and two children.
Eyewitness accounts report that the fire started from a mosquito coil in one of the teenager’s rooms, which ignited the bed.
Crying for help, the mother of the two young children who died thought it was an electrical spark from the Liberia Electricity Company (LEC) and ran to call a representative who lived nearby. However, upon her return, she found that her children, who were sleeping inside, had been engulfed by the fire.
The community tried to put it out as the fire was spreading quickly to other buildings around until the fire service arrived, but the four children inside the house had already been burned beyond recognition.
The Liberia fire service and police authorities have taken the bodies to the mortuary.
