A few days ago, former President Olusegun Obasanjo revealed that Senators are deciding their take-home salary, which is not right.

The statement of the former president was refuted by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC Chairman, Mohammed Shehu, that the controversies surrounding the monthly salary and allowances lawmakers receive is N1.06m and not as claimed.

However, in a twist of event on BBC Hausa, the lawmaker representing Kano South, Senator Sumaila Kawu, in an interview opened up that he earns over N21m monthly as a total take-home package.

He said though his monthly salary is about N1m, it shows a great difference in margin from the earlier claim made by RMFAC.

Shehu agreed that RMFAC usually makes some deductions from the monthly N1m salary which will then amount to N600,000.
