I Have No Blending Plant In Malta Or Anywhere – Mele Kyari Replies Dangote

The loggerheads between Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man and the Nigeria National Petroleum Company are having turns and twists of events that keep unfolding.

Dangote had on July 22 told House Representative members that NNPCL and some oil traders have opened a blending plant in the island country of Malta which is located in the central Mediterranean Sea.

An oil blending plant has no refining capability but can be used to blend re-refined oil (a used motor oil that has been treated to remove dirt, fuel, and water) with additives to create finished lubricant products.

The claims by Dangote were refuted by Mele Kyari, the group chief executive officer (GCEO) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, on Tuesday that he or any official does not own a blending plant or any form of oil facility in Malta.

Kyari said he is not aware of any NNPC employee who operates such a plant in the aforementioned country.

The clarifications were made by the NNPC CEO in a post on his X handle “I am inundated by enquiries from family members, friends and associates on the public declaration by the President of Dangote Group that some NNPC workers have established a blending plant in Malta thereby impeding procurements from local production of Petroleum products,”
