As Nigerians join the rest of the world to celebrate Worker’s Day, the Nigerian Labour Congress and its counterpart, the Trade Union Congress have reiterated their commitment and stand towards a new minimum wage.

The Federal Government had on May 1 announced a 25% to 35% salary increase for six consolidated structures.

Reacting to the percentage increase the Labour Union resounded that a salary increment is not what the Nigerian worker needs but a minimum wage.

Organized labour therefore urged the Federal Government to do the needful and work with the N615,000 wage which is due for all workers owing to the high rate of commodities in the country.

Leaders of the NLC and TUC, Joe Ajearo and Festus Osifo at Eagles Square to mark the event made it clear that it is imperative for the government to look into the minimum wage before the end of May or there would be a total shutdown in the nation.
