The State House of Assembly in Bauchi took a new turn on Friday after workers aligned with the nationwide strike of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, which paralyzed activities at the Bauchi State House.
The workers, who are demanding financial autonomy from the legislature, refused to allow any activities to take place at the complex.
Announcing the intention of the association on Friday, Adamu Yusuf, Chairman of the association in the state, said their members joined the strike in compliance with the directives of the national leadership of the association.
The action aims to compel the Federal Government to implement the Financial Autonomy Act, which will help strengthen parliamentary independence, and the state chapters stand firm to see its realization.
Yusuf stated that the strike by the workers became necessary after all dialogue and negotiations with relevant government agencies were exhausted.
