Following the death of the First Lady of Akwa-Ibom State, Mrs Patience Umo Eno, Governor Umo Eno, had to pass the role of his late wife to Mrs Helen Obareki, their eldest daughter.

The appointment of Mrs. Obareki caused many stares and complaints from Nigerians wondering why the position of First Lady was transferred when the wife of the Deputy Governor was very much alive.

Explaining the position of Mrs. Obareki, Gov Umo Eno said it was only necessary for his daughter to take the position of Senior Special Assistant (SSA) and Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady since she was close to her mother and a continuation of the First Lady’s impactful legacy would be preserved.

Backing his stand from the bible with Peter’s example, Pastor Eno emphasized the position of First Ladies, not a role of appointments, but since Mrs. Obareki was closer to assisting the mother, it was more comforting to take charge of the role and programs in the office.

He, therefore, admonished that Mrs Obareki’s appointment was not politically motivated but from a view of experience she had with her mother’s pet projects and initiatives.
