Days after terrorists stormed three churches in the Kurmin Wali community in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting 177 worshippers, with 11 escaping, the bandits have been sighted roaming freely inside the forest with their captives.
This development has raised intense concern from the United States over the safety of Christians in Nigerian communities, as high-level US official delegates arrived in Nigeria on Thursday.
During the one-week tour aimed at countering terrorism, the meeting was held between the United States-Nigeria Joint Working Group and was co-chaired by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker.
According to Hooker, the mass abduction in Kaduna underscored persistent security failures that the Nigerian government must urgently address.
The bandits who have been moving freely with the church captives between Ungwan Gamu and Maro communities in Kajuru Local Government Area had demanded the return of their 17 motorcycles, valued at N28.9 million, as a condition for the release of the worshippers that were seized during recent military operations.
