Scores of students are reportedly feared dead after a petroleum tanker crushed some students of Delta State.

It was gathered that the students were returning from school when the tanker, filled with petroleum product, ran into them.

The accident occurred at 3pm on Thursday directly opposite the Gen. David Ejoor Barrack of the Nigerian Army in Effurun near Warri.

Reports say ten of the students were dead while others have been rushed to the Army Hospital inside Effurun Barrack for medical treatment.

Reacting to the development, the Warri South Local Government chairman, Micheal Tidi, has called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to prevent a recurrence of the unfortunate accident.

Meanwhile the local government chairman of Uvwie, Ramson Onoyake, has called for a meeting with all tanker drivers in the local government area to forestall such disasters in the future.

He said there is a need for greater responsibility on the part of every stakeholder.
