Take Out HND From The System, NBTE Cries Discrimination

The consistent discrimination between the Higher National Diploma, HND and Bachelor in Science, BSc graduates which degree is superior, has made the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, call for the scrapping of HND.

This is coming after the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, Prof. Idris Bugaje, joined his voice with graduates of HND, wailing over the consistent discrimination against HND holders in society.

Olaopa said recommendations made by the Conference of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in 2017 should be revisited as a way to look into the future of HND in Nigeria.

Also, speaking at a one-day dialogue, Shammah Kpanja, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics pointed out the transition of HND to BTech to keep the relevance of Polytechnics.

He said Polytechnics should be converted to degree-awarding institutions, and then National Diploma, ND, would remain a qualified certification to a degree if the recommendations made by COHEADS were followed.
