Nigeria is expected to receive the first batch of repatriated immigrants from South Africa on Thursday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The high rate of xenophobic attacks on African migrants led to the decision, as other nations like Ghana and Malawi have taken steps to return their citizens back home.

The spokesperson of the Ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, disclosed that the voluntary returnees will arrive in Lagos on board an Air Peace flight from Johannesburg on Wednesday.
