A devastating storm that struck on Tuesday has claimed the lives of a family of four and caused widespread destruction across Ugbokodo and Ughoton communities. The rainstorm reportedly destroyed about 280 homes, leaving hundreds of residents homeless.

The storm, accompanied by heavy rainfall and massive hailstones, tore off the roofs of numerous buildings, including the All Saints Anglican Church in Ughoton, which was completely brought down. Major infrastructure was also affected, as streetlights along the community’s access road were knocked down, and a transformer in Adesa Quarters was uprooted.

Despite the scale of destruction, there has been no response from the government at either the state or local level. Emergency management agencies are yet to arrive at the affected communities. Disturbingly, instead of providing support, police officers have mounted roadblocks along the access roads, allegedly collecting money from commuters.

Residents are calling on relevant authorities to urgently intervene and provide relief to those affected by the disaster.
