The recent bill passed by the Ghanaian parliament against LGBT communities has raised concerns internally and externally giving President Nana Akufo-Addo a double mind in passing the bill into law.

Internally concerns were raised by the Finance Minister that funds will be withdrawn from the nation including the $3.8 billion from the World Bank which is meant to be funding Ghana for five to six years.

In the wake of the International Monetary Fund, IMF, rescuing Ghana with a recent loan to save the economy from crisis, the Ministry of Finance is more concerned over further repercussions and restrictions by international bodies.

The penalties against LGBT according to the bill passed by the parliament comprise a three-year jail term for anyone identified as LGBT and five years for promoting LGBT.

It is imperative to know that President Akufo-Addo has a time frame of seven days to ascertain his signature and fourteen days to reject the bill giving reasons for refusal.

However, the President is set to meet with key stakeholders in the Nation to decide on the best way forward, even as international communities like the United States of America, United Kingdom and other bodies are voicing a negative vibe to the bill.
