Police arrest protesters in Ughelli

Sixteen youths have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command in connection to Tuesday’s violent protest by irate youths against the EFCC’S (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) arrest of internet fraudsters popularly known as “yahoo boys” in Ughelli council area.
Some of the youths went on the rampage at the Otowodo intersection of the East West Road in Ughelli where twelve heavy duty trucks, including those carrying petroleum products stuck in traffic were reportedly set on fire by irate protesters.
It was reported that two persons died while several others suffered varying degrees of injuries.
After assessing the damage in person on Wednesday, the State Commissioner of Police Mr. Ari Mohammed Ali informed journalists about the arrests.
Warning the youths against taking laws into their hands, the police boss, however denied claims that the deceased were killed by the police, saying that the “Policemen were very professional in their conduct.
