Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, the immediate past governor of Delta State has spoken about his fallout relationship with former governor James Ibori.

The duo have been at loggerheads since the Delta Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in 2022.

Ibori had supported David Edevbie, a commissioner of finance in his administration, while Okowa threw his weight behind Sheriff Oborevwori the former speaker of the state house of assembly.

Oborevwori eventually won the primary and is now the present governor of the state after taking the oath of office on Monday.

Okowa said Ibori’s insistence on backing Edevbie resulted in a disagreement between them.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday, Okowa opened up on why he opposed Ibori’s choice and resolved to pitch his tent with Oborevwori.

He said Edevbie had tricked him into believing he would respect the Delta PDP zoning provision ahead of the governorship election in 2015.

Okowa further claimed he shared his reservation about Edevbie but Ibori was unmoved.

During the Ibori administration, Okowa and Edevbie were commissioners.

“I don’t like to talk about it but there’s no doubt that we didn’t work together,” Okowa said.
