The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has been denied access to his old office at the Government House in Benin, the state capital.

According to sources Shaibu arrived at the Governor’s office and tried forcing his way into Governor Godwin Obaseki’s office with his security aides.

One of the sources at the government house said, Shaibu was told Obaseki was not on seat but he insisted on gaining access to the Governor’s office.

“All entreaties by the security operatives to him to kindly go back and call the governor if he wanted to see his principal were rebuffed. Instead, he kept pushing the gate, causing a scene. Observers are worried that he may physically attack the governor.”

Speaking further, another source said that the gate to the office of the Deputy Governor and the main entrance leading to the storey building was locked with chains and heavy padlocks.

“Shaibu and his aides waited for about an hour and left. He was said to have made frantic calls trying to reach the Governor but to no avail.”

When newsmen spoke to Philip Shaibu, he confirmed the development, “As I am speaking to you now, I am standing by the gate.”
