A motion moved by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong from Cross River South on Thursday, stating that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control should enforce the ban on sachet alcohol and any bottle less than 200 milliliters, has been adopted by the Senate.

This resolution comes in response to the pressing demand regarding the postponement of the bill, as such alcohol has a higher incidence of being fake, and its consumption poses a risk to the public.

The Agency, in accordance with the motion, announced on Tuesday that the production and sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets and bottles smaller than 200 milliliters will be prohibited by December 2025.

NAFDAC Director General Mojisola Adeyeye immediately made this known during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, as the misuse of such drinks is easily accessible to youths and drivers because they are cheap, hence the necessity for this ban.
