The widely circulated video made by Martin Vincent Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, with traders from the Onitsha Bridge Head Market protesting the market closure and service fee levied on them by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has been denied by the agency.
The traders had alleged that NAFDAC was extorting N700,000 from them with a paper claimed to be a receipt, while the social media influencer threatened legal action against the agency.
In response to VDM on Tuesday, NAFDAC said the matter has been reported to security agencies for proper investigation, as such acts and comments only incite the public and go against the Cybercrime Act.
However, NAFDAC clarified that the penalties imposed on traders followed due process and were in line with federal regulations.
This reaction follows the enforcement operations of NAFDAC, which raided three open drug markets, shops, warehouses, and stores that were all found to be in violation of Good Storage and Distribution Practices.
