No Bomb Was Found In Abia Church Despite Pastor’s Claims — Police

Some residents in Aba, Abia State, still believe there was an explosive planted at the United Evangelical Church, Ehere/Umuola, Ogbor Hill, Aba, after the Associate Pastor, Eleazar Onyenweaku, claimed it was dug up from the gate where the government was supposed to do road expansion.

The pastor’s claim was refuted by the police, who stated that what was found at the fence gate was just metal and nothing close to a bomb or explosive.

However, Onyenweaku still insisted that it was a dangerous explosive device, which a team from the Army at Ndoki Primary Military Base confirmed and evacuated from the area, warning that additional devices might be buried around the area.

Late Wednesday, the Abia State Command Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, through the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, maintained its position that no bomb or explosive was recovered from the church premises.

Faulting the claims made by the associate pastor, the police command stated that he was not an expert or a trained specialist in bomb detection to educate the public on what constitutes a bomb or explosive device, as what was removed by the military was an iron rod, which formed part of the church’s pillars and was confirmed by a member of the church.

The CP added that a thorough inspection conducted by personnel of the Explosive Department found nothing after their examination.
