On Tuesday Senate President, Godswill Akpabio in a visit to the Nigeria Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies in Abuja, revealed reasons behind the quick reintroduction of the old national anthem “Nigeria We Hail Thee”.

He said if the old national anthem had not been taken away it would have fostered unity within Nigerians as they would see themselves as one and issues of banditry, kidnapping and insecurity would not have been recorded.

Akpabio urged those condemning the reintroduced anthem to desist from it, that with “Nigeria We Hail Thee” love and patriotism will grow within us.

He further stated that the anthem is not an element of colonialism but rather in 1959, a panel of Nigerians was set up and the reintroduced anthem was approved.

The Senate President therefore urged people to understand the history of the country and not be ignorant of the law.
