The National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, has withdrawn the accreditation of Abia State Polytechnic Aba for nonpayment of workers’ salaries.

The institution which is billed to start exams next week has been thrown into confusion.

Sources information to NewsCritic that an emergency academic board meeting of all HODs has been scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday 20th, July 2022 as against the usual Thursday that the meeting holds.

Though it could not be immediately confirmed why the emergency meeting was called, it was learned that it might not be unconnected with the withdrawal of the accreditation of the institution by NBTE.

The letter communicating the withdrawal is said to have been delivered to the institution.

Sources close to the school management confirmed to this reporter that the school has received the letter, adding that the workers are being owed over 30 months’ salaries in arrears.

This year alone, for instance, it was gathered that the workers received half salary only once.

This is coming on the heels of the withdrawal of accreditation of ABSU school of medical science by NUC.
