More than 70 persons have been gruesomely murdered in villages in Kwara State by extremists believed to be a faction of Boko Haram who want to forcefully convert residents to their religion.
Sources from the villages disclosed that the Boko Haram group wrote letters to the two villages stating that they wanted to come and preach a strange doctrine, but the refusal led to close-range shooting of over 78 persons, houses being burnt, some kidnapped, and bodies still being recovered.
The state governor, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in a post on X said, “75 local Muslims were
“Massacred” in Tuesday’s raid, blaming the Islamist militant group Boko Haram for the killings. The attack on the two villages, Woro and Nuku, started at about 6:00 PM and lasted three to four hours. During the operation, two sons of the traditional ruler were killed, and other members were kidnapped.
Troops from the Nigerian army have since been deployed to the affected communities.
