MAMA Awards to hold in February 2021

MTV Africa and MTV Base is set to hold the iconic MTV Africa Music Awards this year. The event which was first held in Abuja, Nigeria in 2008 and last held in 2016, Johannesburg, South Africa is to take place in Kampala, Uganda.

The Celebration which showcases African culture, music and creativity aims to recognize, celebrate and reward musicians and trailblazers in music all over the continent. The event, to be held in Partnership with Uganda, is slated for February 20th 2021.

MAMA Kampala 2021 will be broadcast on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and MTV (DStv Channel 130). The repeat show will be aired on BET Africa and other MTV Channels across multiple continents as a one-hour MAMA-themed MTV World Stage feature.

African talents will be celebrated in various categories such as: Artist of the Year, Best Male, Best Female, Best New Act, Best Group, Best Live Act, Best Francophone, Best Lusophone, Best Pop/Alternative, Best Hip Hop, Best International, Legend Award, Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Personality of the Year, etc.

Nominees for personality of the year include Elsa Majimbo from Kenya, Mark Angel from Nigeria, Sadio Mane-Senegal, Siya Kolisi-South Africa, Yvonne Orji- Nigeria and Zozibini Tunzi-South Africa. Other nominees include: Khaligraph Jones, Kwesi Arthur, Nasty C, NGA, OMG and Suspect 95 for best hip hop category. Simi, Sheebah, Sho Madjozi, Busiswa, Yemi Alade, Soraia Ramos and Tiwa Savage for best female artist. Burna Boy, Calema, Diamond Platnumz, Master KG, Davido, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid for artist of the year.
