For a country trying to meet up with a democratic system of government, all candidates during the May 6 Chad election have accepted their defeat and congratulated Mahamat Déby for emerging winner of the presidential election.

Déby was announced the winner on Thursday by the constitutional council which put aside the challenges brought by Prime Minister Succès Masra and former Prime Minister, Albert Padacké.

Preliminary results from the National Election Management Agency show that Masra came second while Padacké was third.

Masra who has taken the results in good faith after the announcement by the Constitutional Council President, Jean-Bernard Padare, had earlier declared himself as the winner on Facebook.

He later promised to contend with the election result with evidence from his party members urging supporters to oppose the stealing of their victory.
