A deep investigation into the killing of eight unarmed protesters in Lamurde LGA in Adamawa State, including a 13-year-old girl, has been ordered by the House of Representatives.

Nigerian military personnel allegedly shot at the women during a demonstration that the community described as peaceful, killing 8 people and leaving over 30 others struggling for their lives at Numan and Yola Specialist Hospitals.

On Wednesday, House Rep Kwamoti Laori from Adamawa moved a motion regarding the state of the people in Lamurde, as the crisis has claimed lives, destroyed property, and deepened community tensions at a time when Nigeria continues to confront a wave of insecurity driven by armed groups, kidnappers, and terrorists.

Adopting the motion for a resolution, lawmakers issued a stern directive to the Chief of Defence Staff, urging all troops deployed in Lamurde and other parts of Adamawa to exercise maximum restraint, uphold professionalism, and strictly follow the rules of engagement as tensions rise in the affected communities.

Thereafter, the House Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, directed the Committees on Human Rights, Defence, and Internal Security to embark on a fact-finding mission to Lamurde.
