One person has been confirmed dead in multiple accidents which occurred on Friday morning at the popular Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The accident involved a Tanker loaded with 45,000 liters of premium motor spirit (pms) and four vehicles.

A video had earlier trended online showing some people scooping fuel from the fallen Tanker.

According to the state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), upon arrival of the Agency’s tiger team at the incident scene, it was observed that the multiple accidents involved a tanker with an unknown registration number.

A joint team of Lagos State Fire Service, Agency fire team, and Nigeria Police worked to manage the flames and the resultant traffic backlogs using chemical foam.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu in a chat with Daily Trust said the other affected cars were recovered by the Agency’s light-duty equipment.

“The entire area has been blanketed with a chemical retardant to prevent secondary incidents from the product which spilled into a nearby gully,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary confirmed that a single fatality (adult male) died from the accident, saying his remains had been evacuated from the scene.

He said, “Members of the public are to refrain from illegal scooping of product to prevent any additional outbreak and to avoid igniting naked flame or fire.

“The operation has been concluded and the carriageway is open for traffic having been supported by the Agency’s fire trucks and super metro.”
