Kenya’s New President, Ruto Sworn In as Today

Officially, William Samoei Ruto has been declared President of Kenya during his swearing-in ceremony at the Karasani Stadium, Kenya.

Ruto was sworn in by the Chief Judge, Martha Koome, on Tuesday at a ceremony held in the packed Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.

With his inauguration on Tuesday, Ruto becomes the fifth president of Independent Kenya, and the second ethnic Kalenjin after the late Daniel Arap Moi to hold the office.

Before his inauguration, Uhuru Kenyatta, the outgoing President congratulated Ruto on his victory in the August 9 poll.

Present at the inaugural swearing-in ceremony was the Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo.

This was made known by Osinbajo’s media aide, Laolu Akande, via a tweet, “VP Osinbajo now in Nairobi, Kenya where he is representing Nigeria at the inauguration of Dr. William Ruto as Kenya’s fifth President today.
