A debate to impeach Kenya’s Vice President Rigathi Gachagua, which is ongoing by the Senate closed doors after Gachagua lost court bidding to stop the process of accusation of abuse of power and corruption.
An 11-count charge was leveled against Gachagua by the Lower House of Parliament following a vote on whether he would be retained or removed, but the Deputy President denied all allegations awaiting the announcement of the debate on Thursday.
If Gachagua’s removal is approved by the Senate, he would make history as the first deputy to be impeached after complaining of President William Ruto sidling him before he was later accused of supporting the anti-government protest in June.
His hope had been in the judiciary but was dashed on Tuesday when a Kenya High Court against suspending the Senate session on Wednesday.
