The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a fake viral announcement regarding governorship candidates in Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe, and Kano states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

​In a public disclaimer issued on Monday across its verified social media platforms, the commission warned Nigerians to disregard the document, clarifying that it did not originate from the electoral body.

​INEC urged the public to cross-check all election-related announcements through its authorized portals to prevent the spread of misinformation. The commission confirmed its official website as inecnigeria.org, its news portal as inecnews.com, and its verified handle across major social platforms as @inecnigeria.

The disclaimer follows the commission’s recent publication of candidate lists for the upcoming February 6, 2027, governorship elections, which sparked public discussions over missing names in several key state contests.
