In defending the criticism directed at her by Nigeria, claiming that she has been disrespectful to her heritage, Olukemi Badenoch has stood by her words, stating that she is only telling the truth.

Kemi, the newly elected Conservative Party leader, had earlier made statements at events recalling the horrors she experienced while living in Lagos as a teenager, which led Vice President Kashim Shettima to advise her to change her name instead of being disrespectful to her origins.

In response to Shettima’s comments, Badenoch’s spokesman stated that she stands by what she says and is not the PR for Nigeria, but is very proud of her leadership in the United Kingdom.
