A senator representing Bauchi North, Adamu Bulkachuwa had made claims that he uses his wife Zainab Bulkachuwa, position as a judge to favour his colleagues in the senate.

Zainab became the first female President of the Court of Appeal to hold such a position.

In 2007 she presided over the Sokoto State governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the suit brought by the former governor of Bayelsa State Timipre Sylva, challenging the nomination of Seriake Dickson who was also a former governor of the state, as the flag-bearer of the PDP.

While speaking at the valedictory session of the Senate on Saturday, Bulkachuwa said he often influenced his wife’s decisions while she was in office.

In the words of Bulkachuwa an All Progressive lawmaker, “Particularly, my wife, whose freedom and independence I encroached upon while she was in office.

“And she has been very tolerant and accepted my encroachment and extended her help to my colleagues.”

He was however interrupted by Senate President Ahmad Lawan who presided over the valedictory session from speaking further.

“Distinguished, I don’t think this is a good idea going this direction,” Lawan said.

Today 13th of June 2023, The 10th House is undergoing voting for the next Senate President and its inauguration.
