A report has been making the rounds that the Nigerian Government had cunningly introduced fuel subsidy but the government has always refuted that the information lacks credence.
A leaked draft from the Accelerated Stabilization and Advancement Plan (ASAP) that was presented to President Tinubu on Tuesday by the Finance Minister, Wale Edun showed funds spent on fuel subsidy for the year 2024.
ASAP a body designed to address key challenges affecting the reform initiatives and stimulate development in various sectors of the economy, showed that the estimated expenditure on fuel subsidy for 2024 is N5.4 trillion.
This total money spent on fuel subsidies is higher than the N1.8 trillion spent on subsidies in 2023.
However, the Federal Government in a statement on Thursday through the special adviser on information and strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the documents as unofficial urging Nigerians to disregard the viral document as fuel subsidy is totally gone.
