Florence Pugh, one of Hollywood’s young talent who has been everywhere from big Marvel projects to cult horror films is now in talks for another giant role.

According to Deadline, Pugh is in talks for the role of Princess Irulan Corrino in the highly anticipated sequel to Dune. The eldest daughter of Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV.

The Hollywood Reporter cautions that the actor is waiting to see the script before any final decision.

If this turns out to be positive, Pugh would join the star-studded returning cast of Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya and Josh Brolin. Director, producer, and co-screenwriter Denis Villeneuve is also returning for the sequel, which would also reunite Pugh with Chalamet, who she co-starred with in the 2019 remake of Little Women.

The Dune sequel is more of a continuation of the story, since it’s roughly the second half of the book  which Villeneuve is aiming to start shooting this summer. It picks up after Paul Atreides (Chalamet) and his mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) escape into the unforgiving Arrakis desert with the native Fremen. They’ll soon start to lead the fight back against the evil Harkonnen and the scheming Emperor.

Other roles still to be cast include the Emperor and Feyd-Rautha, the cunning nephew of Baron Harkonnen, who was so memorably brought to the screen by Sting in the 1984 David Lynch adaptation.

Dune 2 will be out 20 October 2023.

Pugh is currently filming Christopher Nolan’s biopic Oppenheimer
