The free rail services for commuters have been extended by the Federal Government.

It was disclosed by the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, on Thursday on its official website.

NRC noted that the free rail service would expire on January 7, 2024, instead of January 4, as it was earlier announced.

With the adjustment made, Nigerians who book their train tickets using NRC e-ticketing can enjoy free train rides for the next three days.

The message of the website reads, “Dear Passengers, we are pleased to inform you that train services will be free of charge from December 21, 2023, to January 7, 2024, as per the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!.”

It will be recalled that in December last year, President Tinubu made a 50% reduction for interstate travel fares and a free ride on all rail lines from December 2023 to January 4, 2024.
