Residents living in Osun State have been urged by the State Government to embrace the mass cervical cancer vaccination campaign against one of the causes of death in women.

The program was held on Wednesday at Osogbo with the Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Public Health, Dr Akindele Adekunle to sensitize the people on the need to be vaccinated against cervical cancer.

Critical stakeholders were also present in preparation for the vaccination campaign which will commence from October 24, 2023.

The various stakeholders are to reach out to the grassroots after being sensitized and educated on the danger of the killer disease in women and how it can be curtailed.

While emphasising the need to curb the menace of cervical cancer, Adekunle maintained that the state government put the welfare of the people as a first-line charge under the governance deliverables of the Ademola Adeleke administration.

Dr Adekunle said, “We cannot do this alone. We need your support. The HPV vaccine, when given, helps protect against cervical cancer,” Akindele affirmed.

According to the Southwest Regional Coordinator of the World Health Organisation, Dr Isiaka Ayodeji, Osun is among the 16 states in the federation that will be kick-starting the mass vaccination campaign against cervical cancer on October 24.
