To bring an end to his eight-year tenure in office as the Executive Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has been alleged to have escaped the country for fear of being probed.
The claims were made by the governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, in a statement that Obaseki has left Nigeria through a land border due to the atrocities he has committed in the state since 2016.
Okpebholo, who will take the oath of office on Tuesday, November 12, has repeatedly suggested that Obaseki’s departure from office could make him vulnerable to investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The statement also claimed that Obaseki disappeared from the Government House and chased out all staff on Friday.
However, contrary to the allegations, Obaseki was reportedly seen in Lagos State on Sunday evening, according to sources.
