Desperate Mother Sells Baby for N2.9 Million in Anambra

A young mother and her accomplice have been arrested by the Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency in collaboration with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare for selling a baby for the sum of N2.9 million.

The incident occurred in Awada, Idemili North Local Government, where the mother, identified as Chioma, confessed on Friday at the SASA office that immediately she delivered Precious Unchenna, a supposed prophetess, facilitated the sale of the baby.

Chioma said she was given N300,000 and a house rented for her, while the baby was handed to another woman, with Prophetess Precious retaining the balance of the money.

Upon interrogation, Precious claimed she was only assisting the young mother, who was chased out after her pregnancy and was experiencing difficulties. However, she could not justify why she gave Chioma only N300,000 out of the N2.9 million.

The prophetess and the mother have been handed over to the state Ministry of Women Affairs for further investigation.
