A lady suspected to be a student of Delta State Polytechnic Otefe-Oghara has attempted suicide by jumping from the Oghara-Benin Bridge into the river.

The incident is reported to have occurred on Tuesday at about 7pm.

A commuter, Israel Joe, an activist, and his friend who were returning from Benin saw the student jump from the bridge into the river.

“ I, in the company of my friend Jay Cee was returning from Benin when we saw someone jump from that high bridge into the river. We had to park on top of the bridge and raised an alarm” Mr. Joe said.

Some locals under the bridge jumped into the river and headed for the point the lady fell into.

The motorists also reportedly called the Divisional Police Officer, Oghara, who mobilised men to the scene.

It was gathered that the undergraduate was rescued alive and rushed to the Oghara Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

However, the reason for the lady’s action could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
